CHP – Distributed Energy Resource
In May 2020, the Township of Woolwich, Grand River Energy, and Arcadian Projects installed a combined heat and power (CHP) system at the Woolwich Memorial Centre, improving energy efficiency by utilizing 80% of generated power for heating. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gases and is expected to save the township $90,000 annually, about 22.5% in energy and maintenance costs. Arcadian handled all services for the 24,000 lb unit installation, providing cost savings and expert support with no upfront capital investment for the Township.
“We’re trying to be good environmental stewards. The new system should reduce the township’s carbon dioxide output by 189 tonnes, equivalent to taking 41 cars off the road. The project also got a $255,000 federal grant for clean energy projects. “That’s pretty substantial for a small municipality,” she said.”
